Once I decided that my blog needed some changes, I was almost obsessive about it and I've been tinkering with it all day, in spite of my sleep-deprived haze.
And I think I'm satisfied... for now. I even got rid of that pesky Blogger navbar at the top!
I have it in my head to do a complete, from-scratch makeover, but it would be a big project and I really have other projects I should work on. So this will do for now.
Also, I may not continue with the monthly mastheads. Not that I don't like them-- I love them! I just... I don't know. Maybe I'll take a break and see how it goes. Maybe I'll just do seasonal updates instead of monthly. I guess I shouldn't quit altogether because then I would never have any design exercise! So we'll see how it goes.
Anyway, tell me what you think! How does it look on your end? Is everything readable? How does the right edge look? I know it will be different on different size monitors, and I don't know if I should make the masthead longer so that it will be more likely to stretch to the edge of bigger monitors, or leave it as it is.

From my monitor it is very nice. I love this new masthead, it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLove this new layout. Minimal, and uncluttered. Far better then the one you had (not that it was so bad). The new mast head is really nice, very cool composition! But I also encourage changing it, maybe whenever the mood strikes, or seasonally, or whatever. I think it is a good display of you design skill, and good exercise as well. It brings a little new flavor to the blog now and then.
ReplyDeleteI really like the font for your archive on the side- what is it? I think a overall useage of that kind of sans serif font, really simple and straight (like Helvetica or something), would really bring the clean/simple theme together.
Everything looks all straight on Chrome.
I love it. The pictures are beautiful. I've been trying to get rid of the blogger navbar myself, with no luck.
ReplyDeleteNow that I see some comments, I love the comment font. IMO, it should be for everything on the blog.
ReplyDeleteScrapingirl-- here are the instructions for getting rid of that navbar:

Go into your HTML, find the tag that says < head > and paste that little piece of code in right under it. If you need help, I'd be glad to give more direction!
Kris-- The font is the same throughout. However, I just added "white space" in some places. I increased the letter-spacing in the side bar, but I couldn't do that in the paragraphs or it would be too hard to read. I only increased the line-height there. And I know you're partial to sans-serif fonts, but serifs are actually easier to read, so they're very good for certain applications. And of course, every font lends a certain "feel".
P.S.-- it's fairly amazing what you can do with a single font using the "line_height", "letter_spacing" and "text_transform" properties in your CSS.
ReplyDeleteI love it come over and re do mine and I'll wash your dishes. Your brilliant just dazzling, I think my mind is sliding into the over the hill gang. I cleaned some junk drawers today and got a new cast on my right leg. Yep done it again.
ReplyDeleteLove the pears. Love the logo. Love the font.
ReplyDeleteCome and do mine too.
I don't know about all that techie stuff about fonts, etc. The pears look great, however. Makes me want to head for Hood River right now.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't mind seeing some of the finest apples ever produced, however, the Newton (or Newtown)!
What do you mean you don't know all that stuff about fonts??!!? You're a printer for cryin' out loud!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I finally figured it out. I am so computer stupid. :)
ReplyDeleteI like it - especially the fishpond. :P Do keep changing the header; maybe according to church holidays? Y'know, being the wife of a pastor an' all...
