Lets "Stimulate" the Economy by Taking More Freedoms

I don't usually post about politics because it's just a little too high-profile for me. But being the health nut that I am, I'm making an exception for this one. The whole "Economic Stimulus Plan" is insanity as far as I am concerned, but this part really rankles me. Apparently a bill about government regulation of health care was tacked on there, and nobody even bated an eye. (Not that I should really care, right? I don't even go to doctors. Still. This is bad news.)

From Bloomberg.com:

Tragically, no one from either party is objecting to the health provisions slipped in without discussion. ... The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States” (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. ... One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective.

It's a short article. Go read it and see if your blood pressure doesn't rise a few notches.

Nineteen Eighty-Four

  1. That's not the only Trojan horse in the stimulus package. The USA is no longer what it was. Just like that, we have endorsed socialism. An example of cost effective health care in Europe is that people 59 years old do not receive bypass surgery. We are going to be offering a lot more palliative care. When the government starts mandating what can be done to who we are in big trouble. Another thing they slipped in is more money for abortions, a lot more, and it's ironically under provisions for childrens health care. Yeah 1984, and maybe even worse. But we have our families, our faith, and each other. The amazing thing is to watch freedom as we know it just simply be voted away. One thing about Obama is there is nothing sneaky, he is doing exactly what he said he would do.

  2. I keep trying to ignore all the b.s. that is going on with the political world. Who needs to stress about it when things are hard enough with ones daily lives at home? But this is bad, super scary and it does look like we are headed into that creepy depressing world of "1984". My family rarely goes to the doctor either, but if our lives were ever in jeopardy, it would be nice to know that the government is NOT the one who decides weather we live or die. And I thought it was bad when I heard how much of the stimulus package was going to re-sod the white house lawn.

  3. “One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions. These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”

"He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother."
