Toothpaste Theories

Jonah has discovered toothpaste. That's what "thoothsath" means, I believe. I've always just brushed his teeth with water, as I do my own, but Daddy uses toothpaste. So here, Jonah is giving his theories on why one might need toothpaste at all.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, it's as good a reason as any. I'm not a big believer in brushing to prevent tooth decay. I have far more faith in some good quality cod liver oil, thankssomuch.

  2. It makes your teeth grow big because, hey, it worked on daddy, right?

  3. My husband is a big believer in cod liver oil also. He's only had one cavity ever and that's because we were kinda drinking too many sports drinks there for a brief period of time.

I would use it more if it didn't give me cod liver urps.

For toothpaste we use coconut oil and baking soda with peppermint essential oil.

  4. For some reason, I can't find the post I wrote about my experience with cod liver oil and dental decay (note to self: tag posts!).

Basically, GOOD high-vitamin cod liver oil has vitamins A and D in highly absorbable and non-toxic form. We don't get nearly enough of those vitamins in our diets because of the kinds of foods we tend to eat, and those we do get are synthetic and not usable by our bodies. Good nutrition, especially involving these nutrients, prevents tooth decay! If you want more info, check out the links in my post above, or go to westonaprice.org.

Heather-- I use a homemade toothpowder with baking soda, salt, white oak bark, stevia and peppermint oil. It's great stuff, but I don't really think it should be used all the time. Also, CLO urps are caused by your body not being able to digest the CLO. I now take fermented CLO, which is AMAZING in it's nutrition, digestability and absorbability. we have been so much healthier, praise God, since we started taking this. If you're interested in learning more, follow the second link right at the end of my post (the stuff on that site is also flavored and really doesn't taste bad at all!). Also, try taking it right before you eat a meal. We always put it on the table at supper-- everyone gets a dose and then chases it with a bite of food or drink of milk. No urps!

  5. I so love the comment you left for me today on my blog! And you are so right. In fact, I thought about that (our grandmother's generation) and almost mentioned that, but I think that would have added 5 more paragraphs to the blog. I am so glad you brought that up. It's tough, because *I* too LOVE birth stories. I love what the female body can do and love reading about it and watching videos. It's all very natural to me.

But you're right - there's a balance somewhere and we haven't found it yet.
